Megan + Matt // Wedding Preview

ac3_1579-copy

Saturday, August 17, 2013 – Tollgate Farms – Novi, Michigan

Where oh where to start on this beautiful wedding? Megan+Matt had a grand vision when planning their wedding day at August wedding at they idyllic Tollgate Farm.  A little bit vintage, a little bit rustic and a whole lot of fun. Lawn games, a tented reception and dancing and refreshments in a pretty mint barn.  It all added up to be a wedding I won’t long forget!

Megan and Matt have that connection together one can’t help but envy. Deeply in love and quick to laugh together.  The time I spent capturing these two together was not only lovely, but oh so fun! Megan even put her fear of large animals aside for some photo ops with the sweet farm animals that roamed the grounds.

Some of my favorite details of their day were the wedding pies(!), sweet details, vintage salt and pepper shakers at each table and their band that had the whole barn rockin’, The Highballs.  Enjoy this sweet preview ahead and help me wish another big Congratulations to this happy new Mr.+Mrs.!

Jessica + Joe // Wedding Preview

ac2_3938-copySunday, July 14, 2013 – Leonard, MI
Inspired by a Midsummer Night’s Dream, Jessica and Joe had a dreamy garden wedding at Addison Oaks last month.  Between the stunning florals and handmade touches (Joe burned into wood all of the guests names for their place holders!) the day was truly special and truly them.  I loved all the soft pinks and greens, lovely blooms and the little flower girls’ floral headpieces. They day was as lovely as these two. Enjoy this beautiful preview!
And another (I know there have been a lot lately!) thank you to my dear friend Lynell Miller for second shooting on this double-wedding weekend with me.  Go team go!

Vue Design // Styled Shoot with Local Dress Designer Shannon Gales

ac2_9945-copy

A few weeks ago I had the incredible opportunity to work and collaborate with local dress designer Shannon Gales of Vue Design, to photograph some of her stunning collection of ready-made gowns that are available at September’s Bride this season!

I asked Shannon if she would share with me a little bit about Vue Design and about the inspiration behind her collection.   Shannon has been designing wedding gowns for brides for over 20 years.  She is passionate about creating gowns that speak to each bride’s unique personality and style through custom design.   Shannon has often heard how she has captured each individual bride’s unique qualities visually in their gown.  What a compliment to hear as a designer!

Recently Shannon has turned some  attention to the process of choosing a  gown with a  system only available  here at Vue Design in GR, called Design a Dream TM. It is a Paper Doll approach to custom design – where a bride can mix and match different parts of the gown to create her own dress – the one that is the very best for her body too. Shannon is excited at the possibilities this process can provide for brides – helping them to visualize in a whole new way, with a whole new experience.

Shannon’s inspiration behind the dresses shown here // “The inspiration was a more refined, classic and modest approach to the designs.  I love blending era’s and look to victorian, art deco, and the 50’s/60’s – weaving elements together to create something that is fresh at the same time.  I also focus on lines that bring out the assets that every bride has.  Color is also an essential componant to how I design – not something that brides typically think about when selecting their gowns, but softer tones are what I gravitate to, as they bring out the best undertones in women’s skin.”

Shooting this was such a great experience and I was going completely crazy over these dresses!  I loved working with the team that helped bring this all together and the beautiful models.  And if you are a bride still in the process of selecting your gown, hands down September’s Bride is one of the best bridal boutiques in the area. Head over and try one of these pretties on!

Carrie + Ben // Wedding Preview Part II // New Orleans Wedding Photography

ac2_8124-copy

Saturday, March 2, 2013

As promised, the incredible part two to Carrie+Ben’s wedding day!

Putting into words just how amazing Carrie and Ben’s day was is nearly impossible. From the location, the food, the details and the couple themselves, it was a day filled with love and surprises and a whole lot of fun.

I’m going to try to give a short synopsis of some of my favorite details and let the pictures themselves fill in the rest.  First of all, if you can’t tell from Part 1, Carrie and Ben are a force. Smart, determined, fiercely loyal to their friends and family…they planned a day that couldn’t have been a more perfect reflection of themselves. They love good food, both have impeccable style and even though they reside in NYC, are proud and celebrate their Mid-Western roots (Carrie hailing from Michigan and Ben from Ohio). It was a destination wedding for all and filled with traditions from both of their backgrounds and New Orleans itself.

My personal favorite of the day was right after the ceremony, the brass band Kinfolk came marching in, ready to take the newly married couple and the wedding guests on a march throughout the streets of New Orleans for the second line. I can’t even look at the pictures from this part of the day without humming ‘When the Saints Come Marching In’ out loud.

Other fun details to note…the girl’s hairpieces, guys boutineers and two of Carrie’s headpieces (love me a girl who changes it up throughout the day!) were done by none other than the amazingly fabulous Pixel+Hank. The day was coordinated by the super sweet Patricia from P.S. Creative who I whole-heartedly hope to work with again someday. After the ceremony Carrie changed into her mom’s super long and super gorgeous wedding veil from the ’70s. It was fun to see the flower detailing matching Carrie’s own wedding dress!  The food was ridiculously good and set up all throughout the venue’s various buildings and outdoor areas.

Carrie and Ben’s first dance was under the stars surrounded by sparklers. Carrie sang karaoke (Carrie-oke?) and I was thoroughly impressed that she sang every.single.word. to ‘Baby Got Back’ without a prompter. At the end of the night, traditional muffulleta was served to the guests. I left with a lot of full memory cards and a happy heart. Carrie + Ben – I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to be a part of your celebration. Enjoy enjoy!

Carrie + Ben // Wedding Preview Part I // New Orleans Wedding Photographer

cb81

Saturday, March 2, 2013
So I have never done this before…broken up a wedding preview into multiple posts.  As much as I’ve been trying to edit these pictures down over the past few weeks, I still can’t edit down enough to put into one post. I really don’t think this is a bad problem to have!
Last week I gave you a little sneak peak of this lovely celebration when I showed you Carrie+Ben’s wedding rehearsal images.  Carrie has an amazing vision, loads of style and a personality to match and it shown through in every single perfect little detail.  Part 1 of their wedding concentrates on the beginning part of the wedding day (naturally) as both Carrie and Ben got ready at Race + Religious (read up on the neat history here!) and their first look and first few portraits. Over the week I’ll be featuring the rest of the wedding day in all it’s loveliness.  As I don’t have another wedding to shoot until later this spring, I actually think this shall tide you loyal blog readers over as well with a lot of fun posts.
So for now, enjoy the beginning of the day. I was swooning over Carrie’s dress and flowers and couldn’t believe how perfectly the walls and colors of the house lent to the feel of their New Orleans wedding.  I’ll be giving a full recap of the day along with links to all of the talented vendors that helped make this day so special in the final part to the day.
